USJ-R launches opening week ‘26
The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) kicked off its opening week with a series of activities at the Basak Campus on Monday, August 3.
First-year students across different departments participated in the annual Freshmen Walk and opening ceremony at the open field before convening at the Recoletos Coliseum.
The morning session featured performances from the Panag-uyon Adelante Singers (PAS), Adelante Dance Troupe (ADT), and a Toy Story reenactment by the Supreme Student Council (SSC) 45th Congress.
Students later attended the Josenian Orientation Series led by the Student Development and Placement Center (SDPC).
Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) freshman Ashlee Nicole Ceriola shared her experience during the opening day.
“It’s fun especially sa co-freshies...na meet gyud namo ang uban with other departments also,” she said.
Meanwhile, fellow Accountancy freshman Keu Hyun Kim shared his goal to build meaningful connections and become more involved in campus life.
“[I want] to [make] more friends and to join organizations,” he said.
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) freshman Chad Enjambre also expressed his first impression of the university.
“Very fun and the environment, the people, are very friendly and easy to approach. My favorite part was the [performances that] did a pretty good job, the dance and the singing troupe,” he said.
With this year’s theme, “Josenian Story: To Infinity with You,” SSC head organizers Michael Milbert Llanos said the program centered on fostering a sense of belonging among incoming Josenians.
“Every toy has a purpose but every person does, too. What we want to make them feel is that they have an SSC where they can feel like we’re prioritizing [their] well-being, [their] needs as students, we give them the best possible activities we can,” Llanos said.
More booths and activities will be stationed at the Main Campus Quadrangle from August 4 to 5.
